Say ‘No’ to Negative Thoughts

Positive thinking

Negative thoughts can creep into our minds unconsciously. We suddenly find ourselves in an anxious state because we’ve allowed one negative thought to lead to another which, in our minds, is about to cause the outbreak of World War III.

The key to breaking the cycle is to try and recognise negative thoughts as soon as they appear. Ask yourself if that thought is actually realistic or are you just overreacting to something that’s just happened or to an ongoing situation. The chances are, when you question your thoughts, you’ll realise that perhaps it’s the wrong time to consider this problem. Perhaps you’ve had a long day at work, skipped lunch or had an awful night’s sleep. Look at the issue with fresh eyes and tell yourself that one negative experience doesn’t lead to another. Choose positivity and move on, taking baby steps.

There are many outside sources which can create negativity. Perhaps a page you look at on Facebook every day or a particular sad song you play, or even negative colleagues or friends. Decide which are your negative sources and pledge to try and cut at least one out of your life each week.
